WHEN: Wed. Oct. 3, and the first Wednesday of every month thereafter, except April.
WHERE: Mykonos Restaurant terrace. Enter the enclosed, covered terrace from behind -- wheelchair accessible; cover is by donation. Extra parking available in the large lot 1/2 block north, in front of Trad’s Furniture.
WHAT: At 6 pm, Bernie Koenig and Emma Wise will begin playing vibes and cello. Shortly after 6 pm the host (Stan) will make available the sheet for the names of the open mic readers. Those interested will begin putting their names, email addresses (or phone numbers), and something interesting about themselves in the allotted spaces. First come, first served. The sheet will have ten spaces, and two reserve spaces (in case there is enough time).
From 6 to 7 pm the waiters will be serving drinks and the best Mediterranean food in the city. Hopefully the noise and distraction of serving will be reduced by 7, so please arrive early.
At 7 pm, after a brief introduction, Poetry Night’s first featured reader, Andreas Gripp, will read for fifteen minutes, followed by ten minutes of Q&A.
An hour of open mic will begin immediately, breaking for a ten-minute musical intermission at 8 pm. Each reader will be introduced and then have five minutes to read. (An average page takes about two minutes, but please time yourself before you come.)
From about 8:45 to 9:00, we are going to experiment with a ‘conversation’ at the mic. Audience members and poets can say whatever they want that is poetry-related. Positive comments about any of the open-mic readers will be welcomed. Any ideas that were inspired throughout the evening, either in terms of poetics or content, and any reactions to anyone else’s ideas -- in fact anything, including a person’s own poetic experiences or pet ideas, will be fun to hear. If we get carried away, we may go on beyond 9:00. Hopefully this will be stimulating and help recharge our batteries after a lot of intense listening.
